Ok i installed FC3(kernel 2.6.12) and all my hardware worked except for my Soundblaster Live! 5.1(dell). it detects it but it says there is no mixer elements. i found these drivers called project emu10k1(the soundcards chipset) and i extracted and went to "make" in console and got this error(sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=602140&group_id=44773&atid=440823) and i went to the directory but the directory wasn't there but /kernel/sound/drivers was... but soundcore.o wasn't in there but soundcore.ko was there so i tried to insmod that. said it already existed and didn't do anything. so im kinda at a dead can anyone help?
sry the link didn't work but i need 5 posts b4 i can post urls
idk man, hope someone here can help ya, i helped this guy ^^^ and got close, but didnt get it workin, he needs a mixer i think, we tried alsamixer, and no elems found.
I got my dell SB Live! Value card working today after loads of frustration.
I upgraded my SuSE from 9.1 to 9.3 - ie. to the 2.6.11 kernal and it still didn't work.
However after I ran alsaconf it detected it and set it up fine.
I have read in a couple of places that Dell don't use standard sound blaster cards - they use cut down versions that require extra work from the OS. not sure how much truth there is in this - but it wouldn't suprise me.
I'd get the latest libraries from the Alsa site and try those.
The Dell SoundBlasters do NOT use the emu10k1 chipset, they use a Dell OEM variation that can be controlled with the ALSA emu10k1x driver. It is a beta driver so most distro wont include it, it is however stable, just with poort audio quality. If you do a compile of ALSA you will get the driver.
If you don't know how to compile ALSA lots of people here will be able to explain.
If you are ever running Mandrake 10.1 I can give you a drop-in file and save you the work, it's only one driver module.
alright..... ive tried everything.... so now its time to install alsa when i type in ./configure stuff scrolls down and this is wat it says Please, install the package with full kernel sources for your distribution
or use --with-kernel=dir option to specify another directory with kernel
sources (default is /lib/modules/2.6.12-1.1372_FC3/source)." u guys know how to get around this? cause when i type "./configure --with-kernel=/lib/modules/2.6.12-1.1372_FC3/source" it says the same thing
i reinstalled linux and now it detects it as emu10k1x
taylortbb, could you send my that driver for the soundblaster live! Value (from Dell) i use mandrake 10.1, so i thouht you could help me. I'm a newb so please send the file and explain how to install and activate it. thanks
