Red face sound with games

have installed mandrake 8.2 from isos
have things pretty much the way I want but I started playing around with some of the games that are installed and I am not getting any sound. I have played audio cd no problem . It took me a while to get the right mixer settings but still no sound when I start up or while im playing games. I don't know if all these games I am using are even suppose to have sound but I think they do.I have a c media 8738 sound card . Any and all help would be greatly appreciated

What about system sounds? I'm going to presume you're running KDE (Mandy's default desktop environment)... so do you get a nice little ditty played to you when you login? If so, then the problem is with the games configuration. If not, then there's something going awry with your s/c setup. The C-Media 8738 (IIRC) is normally an on-board EISA 'card'... so you should try running sndconfig.
