Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Unhappy Sound not detected pulseaudio Z840 Workstation.

My pulse audio will only show Dummy Audio Device no matter what I seem to do. It works on ALSA anad I can play music with XMMS in that mode if I try. Nothing is using the sound card in fuser -v /dev/snd/*. I have the proper config with a default pcm device set to card 0 which is the intel hd audio onboard.

This is a system which was working fine and I transfered the hard disk over from a AMD system which was my main desktop. After moving it to the other rig and getting some other stuff working I was not able to see any devices in pavucontrol.

Tried deleting pulse configs and rebooting, also disabled respawn so I could kill and start it from the console in user mode.

Any Ideas of what thing I might have missed? Also keep in mind I am on Slackware so any special ubunto/rhel/suse type commands will not be available only vanilla linux stuff.

Running pulse audio shows it couldnt find a profile.

Post Edit: Adding this because I was able to get sound on slackware livecd from alienbob 64 bit current w plasma. So there must be some dumb config thing I missed. Worst come to worst ill just reinstall to current and probably fix it.

When running pulseaudio -v
Code:
E: [pulseaudio] module-alsa-card.c: Failed to find a working profile.

According to module-udev-detect, it only found one device and it's id=1 not zero.

I got to your post late.

I somehow fixed it doing something else of all things, I had tried reinstalling pulse audio which broke it so that when i type pulseaudio it cant find json-c.so.2 which I then fully recompiled pulseaudio still had that issue but now suddenly I have sound. I really dont get it but my system is a little broken atm since its slackware 14.2 but I will keep that in mind next time about the udev rule. Consider this solved for now.
