Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question Sony Hi8 CCD-TRV68 and Ultra TNT2 help needed

I jumped into SuSE at around distro 8.x and have read more learning Linux than I did in all of high school. I've found a new plateau that I need some "external" help with.

I am running SuSE Pro 9.3 and am trying to get my Sony TRV68 8 mm camcorder to work in Linux. I have a Creative Labs Riva TNT2 card and trying to get the camcorder to connect through s-video on my video card.

I've tried using applications like Main Actor, Broadcast, Kvdr, MPlayer, etc. but nothing can pick up the camcorder. The only thing that prompts me is Kvdr and it says "could not open /dev/video0 - make sure you have r-w permission". At least it's a start...

My initial thought was maybe I need to update fstab? If so, how should the line read?

If it's not that simple, does anyone have any pointers to help me turn in the right direction to get this operational?

Thank you!
