Solution: SB Audigy2 on Debian 3.1 "Sarge"

I've noticed a lot of issues w/ sound here. I had a heck of a time getting my SB Audigy2 Platinum to work with Debian, but here's what I did to get it working:

1. Assuming that you've configured your kernel to support the emu10k driver/ ALSA, etc (I'd put a URL to a good page but I can't until I post 5 posts aparently ), install the ALSA userland utilities by doing:

Code:
apt-get install alsa-utils
After it installs everything, run 'alsamixer' and turn up your volumes. By default, they seem to be muted for some stupid reason.

As a note, the above assumes that you have the driver working as a built-in or module. by default, the Debian 2.4x kernel doesn't seem to, but the 2.6.x one does. Surprisingly, a newer kernel install doesn't either, so who knows. At the initial boot prompt of your install CD, type 'linux26' to start the installation with the 2.6.x kernel. Just hitting ENTER will use the bad 2.4.x one that we don't want!

BTW, I'll try to fix my newer k7 kernel and let u all know how i fixed it, if and when I do

BTW, did this site used to be linuxnewbie.org?
