I'm still searching for low-wattage hardware to serve as a small router with at least four gigabit Ethernet ports, at least one each PCIe and mini PCIe ports, and pefereably without graphics. Bonus if it is not x86 but MIPS or ARM instead.

I don't know of any embedded routers with PCIe. But if you didn't like what I wrote, why don't you just say I didn't like it. As per the link, I did make note that I was talking about intelligently designed hardware, not consumer-grade equipment.

Calling it off topic seems like a way to reframe an honest word of caution as a violation of LQ rules.

I like the comment fine. It's just wrong and not relevant to the hardware search. Also, as far as I can tell, most dedicated hardware runs vulnerable, abandonware operating systems.

However, although I didn't mention before which operating system I will use since it has not been relevant I will mention it now. It will be OpenBSD. On such systems I only very, very rarely run anything less than OpenBSD. In this case, even the planned peripherals have been selected for OpenBSD support. As far as read-only goes, earlier versions of OpenBSD were able to run read-only. That's no longer possible with recent versions due to the directions their project has taken.

If you do stumble across any applicable hardware with one or two PCIe slots, it would be really great to find out about them.
