sorry. I'm sorry I said a vacuum cleaner. I personally use an air compressor to clean mine out but I figured not everybody has them. Didn't know vacuum cleaners were bad. :-(

The electric motor in a vacuum cleaner creates a rather strong magnet field. And modern Intel processors (since about P4 2 GHz) will step themselves down when they overheat.

EDIT: note that a can of air isn't idiot proof either. compressed air comes out very cold and in humid environments could cause water to condense on computer components, shorting them out. Therefore, please make sure you unplug your PC before blowing the dust bunnies out of it.

As a side comment, be sure that the fans are installed correctly. As michaelk already mentioned, the normal configuration is for the front fans to pull air in, and for the rear fans to blow it out. If your front fan is backwards, then in effect the front and back will be fighting with each other and you will significantly reduce the airflow through the cabinet.

As for cleaning, I've never heard of using a vaccuum but hey it's not my machine. Personally I just use the compressed air maybe every six months or so. If you've got a pet that sheds a lot or your machine is in an area where dust is more abundant than normal you'll want to clean the PC more frequently. Just my 2 cents

I've never heard of this "compressed air"
Is it like cans of air that you can buy or something? And whats its main use? To clean computers?

You basically buy a air compressor that runs on gas or AC power. It compresses air into tanks usually on the actual compressor. And no, they have other uses:

filling up your car tires
cleaning up your computers
painting

to name a few.

Wow. I didn't even know I had to clean my computer. Glad to know it-I do worry a bit now because I have a higher-than-average dog count, and If poocher hair can find its way under my cell phone cover, I'm certain a computer with big holes is susceptible as well. Since I never heard of cleaning the innards of a computer before, I'm almost afraid to now for fear of what I will find.

You can, actually. I've heard of it for use in cleaning keyboards, but opening the case is new to me.

Your computer is an air breathing machine, not unlike the human body..
Since the computer requires periodic cleaning to keep in top operating condition,it makes me think how wonderful the
human body works..Amazing!!
