Question SIS 964 SATA support

I just bought the Asus P4S800D and it uses the SIS 964 chipset for SATA. Does anyone know if there is support in the works for this chipset? If so, how far out is it? If not, why?

I have scoured the net and all I can find are kernel changes that address aspects of the chip other than SATA.

I'm running SATA (I think the intel version) on 2.6.2 kernel. I believe other SATA chipsets are available as well.

www.linuxmafia.com/faq/Hardware/sata.html has some details on this ...

I'm in the same position as you ...

Looks like the support is there now but it won't make it into any installation kernels ...

Hate to drag up an old thread but I'm running into difficulty installing SuSE 9.1 on an ECS 661FX-m motherboard with a Sis 964 SATA chipset. The motherboard claims to support a software (cough, bullcrap, cough) RAID but I'm smarter than that.

Please let me know what is necessary to get SuSE 9.1 to recognize the Sis 964 SATA chipset / drives Hitachi 13G0254 http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduc...145-051&depa=0

I get past the 'English' selection to see 'preparing hard disks...... no hard disks found, please use update CD for installation.'

Thanks.
