Are there someone who installed Linux on Shuttle AMD 64 SN85G4 successfully ?
I could not get Ethernet and Audio to work with Redhat 9.0 even though downloading driver from nVidia and installed it.
(The pc did not recognize network device).

Do you still have RedHat 9.0 installed? If so, ignore the crappy redhat tools for a moment and tell me what is in /proc/interrupts and tell me what the output of ifconfig is and ifconfig eth0. Do this while you have the nVidia nForce driver installed fo course.

I'm also having problems with the same shuttle xpc. I have SATA working but i'm working on the ethernet and sound. Installing the nforce x86-64 drivers didn't help?

Well, I don't know if you've done anymore research into this but I have. I think that if you compile a 2.6.2-rc3 kernel that it will fix your problems. There is a file called pci.ids and they just added the new nforce3 entries into it. The updates are included in the new kernel. I haven't tested it yet myself, but i will do so when i get home from work. I'll post back with results.

I am waiting for your results. I have to do some works for my boss, so do not have enough time to further research(in this week).

That seems to have done the trick. So basically, here is what i did:

Download 2.6.1 and patch to 2.6.2-rc3
Compile the kernel making sure you have forcedeth as a module (its an experamental driver)

Then after that you need to edit a file /etc/modprobe.conf adding the line: alias eth0 forcedeth

then just reboot and you will have your ethernet working

I haven't done sound yet, but it should as simple as making sure your modules are compiled and editing that file in a similar fashion. The alsa website has more info on that i think. I'm not using the onboard sound so I haven't looked that far into it.

If you need more help, post and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Yes. After installing 2.6.1 the networkcard is recognized. And I can get online. How can I install the patch 2.6.2-rc3? I did not find documentation to install patch. I also try to search 2.6.2 rpm, but did not find.
I also get error message: MAC address is not as expected. Did you get that ?

Don't worry about finding a rc3 patch because you won't now that 2.6.2 has been officially released. I'm not sure if you will find a redhat 2.6.2 kernel yet, but you can look around. I compiled my own kernel. You can get 2.6.2 right from www.kernel.org, but you will have to make sure to include the forcedeth driver when you configure it.

I have built 2.6.3-rc3 and can access the SATA disk just fine (with the sata_sil.ko module).
I am booting from an extra IDE PATA disk for now.
I formatted the SATA disk, set the bootable flag, installed a minimal system with debootstrap
(yep, Debian here). Still... when I try to boot from the SATA disk, nothing happens.
The BIOS doesn't even seem to access the drive (I set it to boot from SCSI).

When I disable the 3512 RAID ROM (am I supposed to or not?), I get at least:

NVIDIA Boot Agent 191.0304
PXE-E61: Media Test Failure, Check Cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting NVIDIA Boot Agent.

Updated to BIOS version 15, nothing changed.

Does anybody have more ideas?

Oh, I got it now. grub was not correctly installed. Stupid me...

i have same system but with usb2 external drive, no floppy. Please somebody help me i'm going crazy trying to get linux working, if i could just get linux basically up then i could re-compile kernel or what ever was needed to get it working. how did you get sata working? the only driver i have seen is the one from sil for old Linuxes and because it's locked in there is no way to re-compile? any help would be fantastic.

BTW have most distros but am willing to use any that will work.

Well, first thing i did was install a pata drive in my system. Then i Installed slackware on that drive. Next I downloaded the most recent verson of the kenel (2.6.3 i think it is now) and compiled sata support into it (the driver happens to be under scsi drivers if your looking for it, might also be experimental). After that was all done, copied the slackware cds to my hd, moved my custom kernel into the tree, created an iso, and burned the iso to a cd. Next, I disconnected the pata drive and hooked up my sata drive, used my custom slackware cd and i was up and running.

According to Sdteffen , SuSE 9.0 Pro installs fine on the Sn85G4. He points to a SuSE support database article which details how to configure the Network Interface. It talks about 1. downloading drivers from nvidia or 2. using forcedeth. The orginal SuSE article is in German so here is the Google Translated Article .

He doesn't mention anything about sound, and he does say that Sata isn't working.

p.s. I don't own a SN85G4, so I am unable to test.
