I have been using Skype in PCLinuxOS for 3 years. Now that there have been some changes such as Skype now needs pulseaudio, Skype looks as though it is working, doing all the things it did before but there is no sound. I looked at the pulseaudio volume control and it recognises my VOIP phone (Socatel USB phone as I have used for some years) but the settings make no difference.

Using the testing routine in Skype, I can hear nothing through the phone. As I use Skype Call Recorder, I tried pretending I could hear and talked to it, then played back the recording, but nothing had been recorded. I think this confirms that neither the mike nor speaker is working.

I am guessing that there is something needed at the command prompt to activate/turn on/off something, but don't know what.

I have read the Skype 4.3 forum and frankly I am afraid it makes little sense to someone who is a USER not a command line person.

Any ideas?

Skype works fine with apulse, as a lightweight alternative to pulseaudio
