SATA and PATA mix and boot issue
Hi All,
I just installed a new SATA drive and would like to keep a PATA drive just for data purposes.
I've already been into the BIOS and designated the SATA drive as the primary drive and selected it as 2nd in boot order, with the CD/DVD drive as 1st. The PATA drive is set as the master drive on the secondary connection with the CD/DVD as the slave drive.
However, when I when I try to do an install the partitioner sees the PATA drive as SDA1 and the SATA drive as SDB1.
The PATA drive is in one of those portable/dockable thingies, so I'm able to quickly remove it. I did that, then installed Mint to the new SATA drive. Everything works great. Then when I put the PATA drive back in and try to boot, it reads from the SATA MBR, but looks for the root directory on the PATA drive.
Anybody experience something similar and come up with a solution?
Thanks in advance,
John
