Samsung clp-500 configuration problems.

I'm trying to set up a Samsung CLP-500 color laser printer.

My first problem is that the setup won't take the root password.
I circumvented the problem by commenting out a couple lines in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf

Now if I try to configure the printer via the cups administration I get the response:
server-error-internal-error.

If I use yast to configure the printer, I get
client-error-request-value-too-long

Using google, I end up with a list of ipp error messages from an rfc.

Update,

I deleted the printer and reinstalled it. It seems that there was a conflict with another USB printer that was causing the problem. The driver isn't perfect, because I only get 600dpi resolution. Now I need to figure out how to get the printer to work with my AMD64 laptop.

When I bought the printer, I had thought that all laser printers used post-script. I bought the only one that isn't!
