Samsung 172x + Linux

I'm trying to get my Samsung 172x to cooperate with Slax 10.0... I've got an nVidia GeForce 4 MX440 and I'm trying to get the monitor to use 1280x1024 in 24bit colour, but have so far been unsuccesful.

Not only can I not get into 1280x1024 in any bit depth, it's set as my default resolution in xorg.conf. If desired I can post that section of my xorg file.
