salvage data on USB microdrive

I have an 8 GB USB microdrive that seems to have developed some bad sectors, preventing it from being properly brought up. FC5 recognizes that the drive has been inserted:

scsi2 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
usb-storage: device found at 4
usbcore: registered new interface driver usb-storage
usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning
USB Mass Storage support registered.
usb 1-7: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4
usb 1-7: device descriptor read/64, error -110

scsi 2:0:0:0: scsi: Device offlined - not ready after error recovery
usb-storage: device scan complete

I can hear a slight, but noticeable clicking on the drive indicating that it suffers from some physical damage. What I'd like to do is get the drive recognized to the point where I can perform a ddrescue on the data and trash the drive. Is there any way of forcing the disk to be assigned to a device despite the errors?

thanks,
JP

What about adding a manual mount point to your system and an entry for the device in /etc/fstab?
