Saitek p2600 and kernel 2.6

I have a Saitek p2600 joypad. However, when I run /etc/rc.d/rc.hotplug stop then /etc/rc.d/rc.hotplug start, /dev/js0 is not detected. I am guessing this is because I am using kernel 2.4, an old kernel, with a recently released joypad.

Can somebody tell me if this joypad works with kernel 2.4 or if I need kernel 2.6?

Take a look at this:http://www.tachyon.arkku.net/other.html

See that? This person is using a p2600 with the latest kernel (which must not be 2.4 since that is older than the joypad). But I want to be sure.

I would greatly appreciate some help on this matter. Thanks in advance.
