ruby imac g3


I have as the title suggest an...

IMac G3
"Ruby"
450Mhz PowerMac(2)
320MB RAM
20GB HDD
"NewWorld" System


**ONLY LINUX THAT IT WILL RUN IS DEBIAN**

Now with that said. What can I use this for?

I'll list some ideas and you vote on them or add your own

Multimedia Playback
Multimedia Streaming Server
SAMBA Server
Games Playing
Games Server
Experimentation (of risky things )
Garbage

Vote on what I should do to this thing TODAY!!!

ok its in use as a lab-rat computer if it might screw up another computer i use this one (im typing from it now)

Iptables firewall if you are currently using an x86 based machine for that job:

The G3 processor will be immune to this when it gets released and exploited.

You have a very capable firewall box there Slap another 10Mbps network card in it and you are golden. Make sure you are using NoScript in firefox on your client machines, don't run java or flash, and you will be golden.

You obviously aren't familiar with the G3 iMac

But for the original poster, maybe load it with music and use it as a Jukebox/Internet Radio. Might have to change the harddisk for something larger if you want to put a lot of music on it, or use an external Firewire drive.

Also I doubt Debian is the only Linux that will run on it. The Debian derived {K]Ubuntu aside, Fedora has a PowerPC version.
