Red face RTL8187B on kernel 2.6.27.7 still not working

Dear forum, same problem as when I had 2.6.24.5:

I load the module, but the device is still not seen through "ifconfig -a". I was checking the device code in the kernel source and it seems to support my chip (device id 0bda:8189).

I was wondering the web and read somewhere that the new 2.6.27.7 kernel finally supported the Realtek 8187B chip! I rejoyced, got the source, configured and compiled the source (in the help section of the device, the kernel guys even send their thanks to Realktek) and no-go.

dmesg gives no output regarding the device after loading the module.

Any hints? I know that every time this question is asked, people get more and more sick of this devil-device, but it's not my fault, hehe.

Box:
Toshiba Satellite L300-13K
Slackware 12.1
Kernel Version 2.6.27.7 freshly compiled
The device is a RTL8187B, integrated wireless NIC.

Updated to 2.6.27.8, have no DHCP

Got it up! With 2.6.27.8 ALMOST everything runs smooth. Only holdback is DHCP. I've tried it with "dhclient" and "dhcpcd" without positive results. My home and work network are both behind WEP, I'm not sure if that's the problem or not..."dmesg" prints out that authentication and association were successful, but doesn't output further.

I want an IP! Any support would be praised! I'll be patient seeing as .27.8 was only released yesterday :P.
