RH 8.0 not detecting onboard nic

Does anyone know how I can git my nic to work with Redhat 8.0 Im using a Asus Nforce2 motherboard it has 2 onboard nic's and I'm using the Nvidia on it's listed in the manual as this

MCP integrated Nvidia Mac + Realtek 8201BL PHY

I loaded the drivers from the CD for Linux and it shows up in Network config but when I try to make it Active it say the device appears not to be present. The other onboard nic is

MCP integrated 3Com MAC + BroadComAC101L PHY

Is kudzu enabled in your system services? If it is, it should detect new hardware and find the modules for it during boot.

download the drivers from nvidia.com then extract the contents. open a terminal in the nvnet folder and type the following:

make
make install
make clean

Then restart the computer and kudzu should now see it.

I have an Epox 8dra+

I installed the nforce2 drivers from nvidia. Under kernel 2.4.18-14.8 both audio and nic work great.(u have to change your imputs in /etc/modules.conf to slot-0) and then turn on the sound from your sound setup. Only thing is that the kernel doesnt see or use the agpgart.o for nforce2.

The dmesg gives out PCI_IDE under that kernel.

The driver package comes with a patch for the agpgart but its only for the 2.4.20-20.8 kernel. Works perferfect under that kernel. But you get no sound nor nic. I havent found anything about how to get it to work, nvidia's offers a driver set for rh 8.0 upgrade, but its for a obsolete kernel. the 2.4.20-20.8 is the base kernel for rh 9 (2.4.20-20.9). I still can get the sound to work or network.

Also upgrading to the 2.4.20 through RH network screwed me p because it left the 2.4.18 installed so my libraries were all screwed at times. Certain programs wouldn't work.

*On the box for RH 9.0 it says it has point and click operation*

I havent had a point and click operation since i started using RH, I have to recompile crap, etc, etc some times its a headache

I like the help some give on here. ask a question and sometimes u get answers like read a boot, or figure it out i did. Crap like that, but not all linux users are at home kids with parents money, or adults with high dollar jobs. Hell I saw a book for $50.00 for RH...Sure I'll run right out and pick it up.*sure*Anyway i dont know where i was taking that but I hope that the above info was some what helpfull.
