Unhappy RedHat 9 modem install problems.

Hi,

I have recently installed RedHat 9 on my box and I am having a problem tyring to get RedHat to recognise the modem.
It is an Intel chipset internal modem. I have run scanModem and I downloaded the driver from the source this recommended.
I followed the instructions in the readme.txt file that comes with driver and the driver install seemed to be successful (I am new to Linux so I may be missing something that points to it failing).
When I try and setup the network connection it doesnt detect my modem.
I do the config regardless, entering all relevant information and then when I try and activate the connection it comes back with
"unable to activate due to ppp0 error 7".
I have also run wvdialconf create and it also returns that my modem isnt detected.
All other hardware was detected on the initial install. I am running RedHat kernel 2.4.20-8.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Ok,

Well I am still struggling with getting the modem to work.
I have managed to connect to my ISP via minicom, however I cant connect using the Redhat network configuration...so in effect still cant connect to internet

I have the modem configured (modem set to /dev/536ep - this is the symbolic link evident in /dev/modem, not ttyLT0 - is this correct??)

When I try and activate the modem connection, there is nothing (ie no dial tone), I get an error telling me "failed to activate ppp0 with error 2"
I really am at a loss as to which direction to move to resolve this problem??

Would greatly appreciate any ideas

Thanks

Hi koinseb

I wasn't able to connect via the internal modem. I tried numerous configs and played with different settings but still kept receiving failed to activate ppp0 with error 2".

I was really at a loss so I purchased an external modem and was able to connect instantly. I am dissappointed I wasnt able to solve the internal modem issues but am fairly new to Linux and felt like i was going in circles.

Sorry I have no answer for you, other than maybe go with the external modem too if you are able to - works like a charm now.

Regards

Bummer ;-)

I'll try it a bit longer and will go with your solution otherwise.

Thanks for the tip!
