Unhappy Red Hat 7.1, 7.3 and Mandrake 8.2 and modem problems

I am having severe analog modem issues.

This system is an HP PAV and had a LTwinmondem originally installed. I tried Red Hat 7.1, and 7.3 with no luck even with the new drivers.

So I purchased a Creative Labs modem blaster Di5633. I thought well the LT modem was probably a Windows emulated modem and will not work on Linux. The Di5633 should not be a "for windows only modem."

I have since tried the new modem with Mandrake 8.2, RH 7.1, 7.3

Kudzu is working and detects it as a modem. The kppp dialer, though will not query the modem or detect it. If I place it on com 4(which is what Windows says: it is a dual boot system) kppp just gives an error "cannot find modem". I have tried all serial ports except usb ones. The setserial command does not work either(from literature documentation).

Hardrake utility asked me to send an output file to hardrake@mandrakesoft.com(or something like that) but I don't think they will be able to help me too much with that(or if I will recieve a response at all).

This is the last major issue I have to resolve before I can migrate, because I cannot get broad band in my area.

Thank you and have a great day!

Unhappy DI5633 is a Winmodem "for windows only"

You may view this modem database

http://www.idir.net/~gromitkc/20020626a.html
Then do a find your FCC ID: BNXUSA-42035-M5-T and you'll see the red WM on the left side of database indicating that it is currently for windows only.

I myself have been looking for this driver, so if you do find something that works please reply. I just got RedHat 7.3 (didn't upgrade yet) thinking that it may support it but after reading you post I don't have much hope.

Good Luck....

(got to this database from redhat.com then to http://www.linmodems.org/)
