the ati.2 drivers doesn't works with the Radeon9700! That is the problem..

rpm -i --force fglrx-glc22-4.2.0-2.5.1.i586.rpm
*** Trying to install a precompiled kernel module.

Tailored kernel module for fglrx not present in your system.
You must go to /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod subdir
and execute './make.sh' to build a fully customed kernel module.
Afterwards go to /lib/modules/fglrx and run './make_install.sh'
in order to install the module into your kernel's module repository.
(see readme.txt for more details.)

As of now you can still run your XServer in 2D, but hardware acclerated
OpenGL will not work and 2D grafics will lack performance.

please run 'fglrxconfig' now

if I run flgrxconfig no problem to configure the config file of the X server but after restarting the X server I can see nothing.. :-/ (no errors but very very deformed grafics)
If i try to deinstall it with rpm -e it said: packet non present.. wow!

as much as i want to use linux, this is absolutely rediculous...

i'd rather yank my hair out occasionally with windows instead of yanking it out constantly dealing with companies that couldn't care less for other operating systems besides windows..

don't get me wrong.. i'm not blaming this on linux - i'm blaming it on ATI and their lack of support or drivers that work for that matter.

I was wondering why tux racer was ungodly slow and laggy. I have a Radeon 8500 128ddr card with a via agp chipset. I was wondering if any of you could tell me where to get those rpms that work for this card. Other than that everything i do runs fine and I have no problems, just with wehn it comes to rendering thats where the trouble begins. If you could tell me the link I would much appreciate it.

You basically have 2 options.

http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html for Ati's own.
Rpm format, should be pain free to install on R-H as I think it's the distro they used to build them, you might even have a pre-compiled drm module for your kernel included [...not that it should be an issue if you don't, it will build automatically]
...they only work with XFree-4.1.x and 4.2.x., make sure you pick the right one.

...or upgrade to XFree-4.3.0 and update your kernel with an -ac patch to get the new drm kernel module. [...I used 2.4.21-pre5-ac2], for DRI support.

Exclamation Mandrake Linux and ATI All-In-Wonder 8500

Hello all,

I thought I would contribute to this discussion. I have been trying to watch TV on mandrake linux using my ATI All-In-Wonder 8500 with the ati.2 drivers and the AVview tv program. I have installed the mandrake rpms (using urpmi ofcourse) and well as untarred the ati drivers from the gatos site. The result you may ask? The only channel I could watch is ESPN, none of the other channels work. At this point, unless someone else knows something I don't, I am ready to buy another TV card that is proven to be compatible with linux or just buy a separate tv. Has anyone else experienced this problem and/or does anyone know of a good tv card that works well with mandrake? Thanks!
