I have searched through google and this forum many times, but have not found a solution to my problem. My issue is that my ps/2 scroll mouse doesn't work in kernel 2.6.5, but does work in kernel 2.4.24. I have the Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" line in my XF86Config-4 file, but nothing has worked relating to that. Has anyone had the same issue before?
Actually, just the opposite for me. My mouse works great in 2.6.6. (X 4.3.0) My mouse config is below. I don't have the PS/2 mouse, as you can see. I have a $15 CompUSA optical mouse. Regardless, the ZAxisMapping variable works as below. The HOWTO file says something about summing up the number of buttons and picking the right button for -Z and the right button for +Z. I have 2 buttons and a clickable wheel. That makes 5 altogether: 1. left, 2. right. 3. wheel button, 4. wheel up, 5. wheel down.
If you install this into YOUR xmodmap file, maybe you can play with the 4th and 5th buttons.
Hmm, I looked back at your first post. Do you even HAVE a mouse under X? (Or is it the wheel that's not working?)
Oh, and another question... kind of a stupid one on my part... you're using XF86Config-4. I just noticed that I had it on my system, but I know I'm not using it. There's not a chance that you're presently using ANOTHER XF86Config, is there? You could be modifying that one and X is using another?
Thank you very much for your replies! I looked at the differences between the configurations and found that my config file has the "Emulate3Buttons" line so I commented that out. After rebooting the X server I proceeded to scroll at my heart's content! Thank you very much for the help!
