Unhappy Problems with third IDE connector

Hello lads!

I've been searching around for hours, but found nothing.
Perhaps anyone knows an solution for this problem:

I'm running a Suse 9.1 Pro Distro on my saystem with an Mobo by MSI (MSI K7N2G-ILSR, 160 EUR).
It has an onBoard Promise 20376 Raid Controller with 2 SATA Channels and 1 IDE Channel. That IDE Channel is able to connect to 1 Drive, eqaul if CDROM, HD or other IDE drives.

Now, the prob is, that I do not know how to install and mount the HD I attached to that connector. Under WinXP no problem, yust installed drivers, and had 3 HDs running in my sytem.

Kernel 2.6.4 (which is used in Suse 9.1) supports Promise 20376 controlles and has the modules therefore (sata_raid, etc shown in list by lsmod), but it does not show my third IDE drive.

What do I have to do?

Ask for any further info you need!

Thanks a lot for your help!

What shows up in /sbin/dmesg?

If the drive is recognized, there should at least be an indication of it being there. I'd check if it was under /dev/hde or /dev/hdf.

Kernel 2.6 Promise 20376 driver so far only supports sata (serial ata), but not pata (ide).

I have the same problem myself, and I am awaiting for the updated driver for 20376 to be incorporated into 2.6 kernel update sometime soon before I jump into Fedora Core 2 or 3. There was a similar thread about this somewhere but I can't find it.

Until then, we can't use 20376 IDE from 2.6. I am currently using it from Fedora Core 1 kernel 2.4 using ft3xx.o if that helps.
