Problem with ubuntu hibernate/suspend

I am having a strange problem with my desktop pc on suspend/hibernate

It powers down but on wake-up screen remains black.

Now if I eliminate start of gdm and start on console only the same thing BUT now if I write startx the x-starts - only when now killing the X again in order to land back to terminal I get a black screen.

I have tried some NvAGP options and vga option on grub, but I assume changes in Xorg.conf are not the solution since the problem occurs already without X...

Oh, once I kill the X and get the black screen - my monitor says "Out of Range"

Have a look here
.

It will give you an example that will help you manually edit your hibernate script. NB the example is for Slackware and not Ubuntu, so there may be differences in the locations of files.

The chvt command might just save my day...
I think I'll give it a try switching to tty1 and killing X and then resuming...
