Windows XP has a nasty habit of permanently storing information about your hardware config and refusing to let you alter it with certain types of hardware.
Are you receiving an error along the lines of "Error loading <some_dll_name>.dll: File not found" when you try to boot Windows XP? if yes, the 'missing' file is in fact still there.. Windows just can't 'find' it because the stored memory configuration doesn't match the one reported by your mainboard.
You could:

Search Microsoft's forums for a solution with the reported error message as your search terms
Try to renew your mainboard's DMI pool data? (available in BIOS config, if available)
Reinstall Windows XP
I know of no other options other than reinstalling from scratch to get Windows XP to recognize the new memory configuration when this happens. I have had the same problems with two Toshiba Satellite Pro notebooks, reinstalling was the fastest (heavily used company laptops, couldn't keep them long enough to solve it another way.) option available at the time I encountered the problem.
Problem for you however will be, if you do reinstall XP.. you'll lose your Linux bootloader, if you chose to install it in the MBR of your disk. make sure you have a way of booting back into Linux (like a floppy) before you go that way.
