problem with motherboard/video card

everytime i leave my computer on for a while i come back to it completely off with just the screen on. then when i trya nd turn it back on it only boots like halfway and doesnt make the beep sound and there is no picture at all. then sometimes it boots fine. and sometimes it boots but the picture is all staggered and crazy. i do not know what to replace either the mainboard or the videocard.

Its sounds like the video card to me. Is it intergrated or is it a separate card? If I was you and the card is separate I would check that it is seated securely in the Slot. If so then I would try another graphics card in the system to see if this helps? Does the issue only occur when the computer is running warm? It may be a heat issue, I would check that the cpu on your graphics card doesn't have anything blocking it.

it is not integrated and i have checked the heat issue and it isnt a problem either. perhaps it is the fan on the videocard CPU?
