problem with fastrak card

Hello,

I'm fairly new to Linux so please be patient with me. I've got a Promise FasTrak S150 TX2plus SATA RAID card installed in my box with 2 SATA drives mirrored. When I try to load up Shrike (RH9) installation, the OS install doesn't see the drives. After resarching the issue a bit I learned that I may need to set some boot parameters but I'm clueless as to how or where I'm supposed to set these. Can somebody please help? I tried loading up with "linux dd" but it keeps looking for the driver in /dev/hdc while I have the drivers on floppy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

(roughly translated);

If useing 2.6 kernel you will need to setup software raid.

To do this successfully you need to re do the array on the controller to "JBOD".

boot the linux cd and see if it recognise your drives.

Then if it does....partition all drives that will be in raid the same.
Make the partition type "FD" this will be "linux raid autodetect" its what allows linux to detect raid drives
I like partition like;

sda
sda1-/boot (type FD)
sda2-/swap (type linux swap 82)
sda3-/ (type FD)

second drive

sdb
sdb1-/boot (type FD)
sdb2-/swap (82)
sdb3-/ (FD)

No need to mirror swap but a good idea to do boot

install to sda3

after installed and booted up make sure you have mdadm or fedora tools that allow you to set up raid...Im not sure if it handles this at install time for you as I never used that distro for raid.

Follow software raid how to for your distro on goolge
