Problem VT6212 chipset on 4 Port USB PCI Card
After research indicated a PCI 4 x Port USB expansion card using a VIA chipset (VT6212L) was compatible with Ubuntu 6.06 LTS, two were purchased but are not working correctly. The system is built using Ubuntu 6.06 LTS-Server and usbmount has been installed to conduct automatic loading when a usb device is connected.
In an attempt to eliminate problems with the build the following results are consistently reproduced with each of the OS versions listed below:
Version 6.06 LTS-Server installed to hard disk using kernel 2.6.15-26-server
Version 6.06 LTS-Desktop run form a live CD
Version 7.10 Desktop run from a live CD

Conclusions
1.External storage devices connected to the USB port built into the motherboard are made available to the user by udev.
2.External storage devices connected to the USB ports on the expansion card are not made available to the user by udev.
My Linux experience is limited and after 2-3 days trying to resolve this problem I would appreciate any help which might be offered. Is the diagnosis accurate? Is udev the problem here? If so can it be configured to work with the card? Has anyone overcome this problem and is able to offer some assistance?
