Problem mounting Seagate external portable harddisk [500GB free agent go] on Red Hat

Installed ntfs-3g drivers.also instaled FUSE.Gave the commands ./configure ,make. make install for both ntfs-3g and FUSE.Made directory /mnt/sda.Then tried to run mount -t ntfs /dev/sda /mnt/sda [sda is my Seagate Free Agent 500GB].Also tried ntfs-3g Gives following errors:
[root@localhost /]# mount -t ntfs /dev/sda /mnt/sda
mount: unknown filesystem type 'ntfs'
[root@localhost /]# man mount
Formatting page, please wait...
[root@localhost /]# mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sda /mnt/sda
FATAL: Module fuse not found.
Error reading bootsector: Input/output error
Failed to mount '/dev/sda': Input/output error
NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a
SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows
then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very
important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate
it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g.
/dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation
for more details.

a question
why did you not use the already built rpm's in the rhn and dag/rpmforge repos ???
Code:
yum install fuse fuse-ntfs-3g

In addition you also need to specify the partition number.
Quote:
mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sda1 /mnt/sda
