The newer one, the 4, is a realtek card, there's a huge thread about it here:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=61832

Its a cardbus card so you'll see a cardbus lock in "dmesg" and /sbin/cardctl ident is useless for it, it'll appear by name in /sbin/lspci

2,2.5,and 3 all ID right under /sbin/cardctl ident and are all Harris Prism.

The ADMtek card is getting swapped in at Dlink and other places, the link in my sig is a great HCL for figuring out what's what.

Cheers,

well, now that this thread has been brought back form the dead, perhaps I should write a follow-up:

The other, functional card I spoke of ceased to function in Linux when I changed the motherboard. It showed the same problems that I was having with the card in the laptop.

Likewise, I bought a new laptop yesterday (a Dell Latitude CPx J) and the same wireless NIC works perfectly in it.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that the problems stem from incompatibilities between the wireless card driver and the motherboard's PCI controller.

From the original dmesg output, the card waslinked to orinoco_cs module. Find the card in /etc/pcmcia/config and look for the manid and the device id comdination and see what it is linked to. You may need the prism_2 module from wlan project. Make sure you find all the entries with the manfid, devid the same as yours and switch them to prism_2. Or if they were set to prism_2 try orinoco_cs. I have a Linksys WMP11 card. It is supposed to work under either Prism_2 or orinoco_cs, but it didn't, I had to load the prism_2 driver in and then switch everything back to orinoco_cs for it to work.

I might be able to help....

I had my card (also a PrismII) working perfectly in Slackware last night. This morning, it did what yours did (with the err = -19 and all).
I went to /etc/pcmcia/config and changed this near the top of the file:

ORIGINAL:
device "orinoco_cs"
#class "network" module "hermes", "orinoco", "orinoco_cs"
class "network" module "orinoco_cs"

I CHANGED TO:
device "orinoco_cs"
class "network" module "hermes", "orinoco", "orinoco_cs"
#class "network" module "orinoco_cs"

(the idea being to use the hermes, orinoco, and orinoco_cs)

Rebooted, and it worked!!!

I hope this helps someone out there.
