programs such as open office, but when i try to print a web page using mozilla

Sounds like a problem with the default margins or page size.
Open office most likely doesn't use the defaults, but forces it's own settings.

Can you find the default printer settings? Should be somewhere in your cups config.

i cannot find anything related to the margins on cupsd.conf... im using gnome 2.2 and when i tried to print a test page using the gnome printer utility program it came out with the "ximian desktop a4 print test page", and the margins where still wrong... any other idea?

PS: Thanks timmeke!!!

Set the correct paper size you are using in cups setup (the web-interface or gnomes own setup)
If it is "letter" and you are using A4 then this could happen because letter is smaller and longer than A4...
You can also (in most programs printing dialog) select another paper size.
