printer printing vertical lines at beginning and end of lines

Hi,
I have a Cannon BJC-4300 printer. I was able to get it to work just fine, except for one really annoying thing. It seems to be printing 'newline' characters or something. So most lines would look something like this:

Quote:
this is a line|
or
Quote:
|this is a line
Any ideas how i can turn this off?
thanks
