Question Printer fails to print: foomatic-rip stopped with status 1!

I would like my Lexmark X73 to work because I still have a good store of ink to refill the cartridge. So far it will not print out under Ubuntu 6.10, although the printer is recognised.

This is an extract from the error log. How can I correct these errors? In practice these errors result in the printer being stopped everytime I try to print with it.

CUPS-Add-Modify-Printer: Unauthorized
cupsdAuthorize: Local authentication certificate not found!
[Job 10] /ioerror in --.outputpage--
E [12/Dec/2006:22:15:21 +0000] PID 6271 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip) stopped with status 1!

I would very much like a reply to this question. Is there another forum which would be a better place to have posted it?
