power manager

hi
I'm trying to the increase the life of my laptop battery and have been looking at the settings of the gnome power manager. I've set it to suspend when the lid is closed on ac and hibernate on battery, along with the other settings.

But when I close the lid nothing happens.

Is there some way to test that the power setting are being read and active.

Check out information on the "Lid Switch" and ACPI

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Fix_Common_ACPI_Problems

If you update your profile to include your distro there may be information available for your specific distro.. Till then Gentoo has some awesome documentation on their site covering just about everything and anything.

http://www.columbia.edu/~ariel/acpi/acpi_howto.txt

also http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/ tutorials often cover getting ACPI to work properly like this example on a Sony laptop running Debian http://www.raubacapeu.net/people/yve.../vaioz1sp.html
