I'm looking to try and get the above scanner installed on my Linux system. Startpage.com returns very few results, with nothing being relevant as far as I can tell.
My knoweledge extends as "plug usb in and hope it works" which has failed me this time.
Well, You can start with plugging in the usb . Hit the power button. Boot up the computer.
So the kernel sees it on bootup. Then Open a Terminal. Type in
Code:
lsusb -v
post back results in next reply in between the code tags (# symbol on advanced reply toolbar in reply box)
To give more info. I hope this command is in LMDE.
Type in and post the results of
Code:
inxi -F
Also. This may be a slow process getting this working so be patient and good luck with it.
I am not a computer guy guy also. Just a biker who has a linux computer.
Bus 008 Device 004: ID 07b3:1300 Plustek, Inc. OpticBook 3800 Scanner
lsusb -t
Code:
/: Bus 08.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=ehci-pci/6p, 480M
|__ Port 2: Dev 3, If 0, Class=Mass Storage, Driver=usb-storage, 480M
|__ Port 4: Dev 4, If 0, Class=Vendor Specific Class, Driver=, 480M
This is just a idea so that you can run the printer from Windows XP/Vista/7 inside of Virtual Box
inside of LMDE.
I only mention this I can't find anybody using WINE to run your scanner in Linux either.
Edit: Run
Code:
inxi -r
to figure out which VM download to pick from Oracle on that how to.
You are running 64bit LMDE so if a 64bit .deb download is available.
Use it. Gdebi should install I think.
Thank you so much for your help. I think this will be my best idea. Unfortunately it would appear to cost more to buy a copy of Windows than it would just to buy a Linux compatible scanner.
Wine is free, I found that the compholio version works great.
If you're not returning it I would try to use the install disk & open with wine which will create a Desktop icon to open it.
