Petition to liberate the Steam Controller?

Now that Valve has decided to no longer produce the Steam Controller, how many of you would be interested in petitioning them to release it and all associated software via the MIT, GPL, or some other license?

I tried to order four additional controllers when they went on sale as I find the Steam Controller the most versatile and feature complete HID out there. It doesn't replace a keyboard or a mouse, but it makes up for those shortcomings by doing things that a keyboard and mouse don't (I hate playing Super Meat Boy on a keyboard regardless of how good I am at it). Now that I know I will never be able to replace the official Steam Controller once mine wears out, I want to be free to purchase one from someone who is willing to supply the demand. There has to be a manufacturer out there that is willing to produce it for people like me going forward, or perhaps the community can rally and we do it ourselves.

/In the real world:

You want them to give away what it took years of research & development to put together? ROTFL.
Research is often treated as an asset. If you get friends, interested parties & money together, you might be able to buy the IP. Your petition would go in the bin.

OTOH, they probably stopped making it because sales dropped off… so they're not wearing out fast enough, or people have lost interest.

Petitions are largely useless and do little but make the starter and/or signatories feel good about themselves.

As an example, take the Revoke Article 50 for Brexit petition, which amassed over six million signatures. It came to naught. This will too.

I am not a naysayer by nature, but I am aware that petitions do very little apart from being a good example of slacktivism, i.e. an act which aims to solve or champion a difficult or effortful cause with very little work on the part of the campaigners.
