pcmcia problems

In a Dell Inspiron 5000e running Mandrake 9 I've got problems with the pcmcia module. I've got 2 cards: Ethernet Linksys and Firewire Belkin.
Both have been recognize correctly and work fine at start.
At times I've got problems when I disconnect one of the cards or "hot" plug/unplug a device. After doing that when I shut down the systems crashes.

I always get this messages when I boot:

localhost modprobe: /lib/modules/2.4.19-16mdk/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/ohci1394.o.gz:
localhost modprobe: Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
localhost modprobe: You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
localhost modprobe: init_module: No such device
localhost modprobe: modprobe: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.19-16mdk/kernel/drivers/ieee1394/ohci1394.o.gz failed
localhost modprobe: modprobe: insmod ohci1394 failed
localhost mandrake_everytime: Building Window Manager Sessions succeeded
localhost network: Setting network parameters: succeeded
localhost network: Bringing up loopback interface: succeeded
localhost internet: Checking internet connections to start at boot succeeded
localhost pcmcia: Starting PCMCIA services:
localhost pcmcia: done.
localhost pcmcia: cardmgr[738]: watching 2 sockets
localhost rc: Starting pcmcia: succeeded
localhost kernel: PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 4 of device 00:07.1
localhost kernel: ohci1394: pci_module_init failed

and when I shut down "succesfully" I always get a message that says:

stopping pcmcia cardmgr: ohci1394 runaway loop while stopping context

Any ideas on how to solve this.
Thanks in advance.

P.S.: I also have a Lucent winmodem, it runs fine after I installed the drivers but now I can't remember if it was after that when I started having trouble with the pcmcia.

The problem I believe is with the location of ur modem if its no slot 3 pci try putting it on slot i pci and instlling the modem.. that shud solve the probles.. i did so to get my modem pctel internal get running .. the IRQ setting prob points the fact that there is a conflict with the locn oif th emodem try it out..

if it doesnt work.. try this out

uninstall ur kernel sources..
reinstall it
then compile the modem drivers.. withe card in slot 1
and insatll the modem..

hope this helps

Thanks, but I don't know how to do what you suggest?
How do I change the PCI slot if my computer is a laptop?
If the problem is the modem and there is no solution, i would rather live without the modem than with the problems in the pcmcia. How can I uninstall the modem?, i removed the driver but still have problems?
Thanks
