PCI express wake up
Hi all,
I'm working on some PCI express drivers and am currently looking into some power management currently. Well I would be looking into some power management if I could get a test/development machine with PCI express that was capable of hibernating! What a nightmare :-)
By turning on my charms I've been able to try a few different distros (Suse 10.1, FC5 adn FC6 so far) on various machines. It turns out that many of the older machines fundamentally won't support and wake on lan or wake on ring from the PCI express bus because it isn't supported on the motherboard. This took me a long time to work out and is a definite heads up for anyone else embarking on this sort of work! Just because it has a working PCI Express slot, doesn't mean it supports wake-up!!!
I've also tried a few new Asus mobo'd machines, but these haven't been very good either. The P5N32 motherboard machines all destroy their bios when waking from a system suspend :-( I tried the Windoze hibernation and this worked smoothly so as you can imagine I was a bit surprised that Linux was currupting the BIOS (Do you guys think it's worth me posting a bug for this, as I'm pretty sure it must be a kernel issue? Does anyone concur?).
As I've now exhausted my options, I'm wondering if anyone out there has got a new system with a Linux distro running (any distro will do) that has PCI express, and can suspend and wake smoothly???
Many thanks in advance.
