Panasonic Toughbook (laptop) has SD card reader no distro seems to work with.

Hi,

I have a panasonci CF-73 toughbook. I has an Intel 855 PM motherboard. There is an integrated SD card reader that has not worked with any Linux distro that I have tried. It will read SD cards but not SDHC with windows XP and the driver from the Panasonic site.

Can you get me pointed in the right direction to find out what exactly the make and model of the reader is and if there might be a solution?

Thanks,
B

I don't think this is a software issue. SDHC is not backwards-compatible with older SD card readers. New readers can recognize older cards, but not vice-versa. Unless the reader clearly states that it can handle SDHC, then it will probably never work.

For the record, I also have several devices that are unable to use SDHC cards, including my Sharp Zaurus. Fortunately, it also has a compact flash slot, so I can use an SD/CF adapter similar to this one to read them.

Thanks for your help. I suppose that I was not clear on the problem, though.

The problem is that it will read absolutely nothing in Linux. It will read SD cards with Windows. Due to it being first generation, it won't read the high capacity cards, but that is not a problem just the limitation of the hardware.

Thanks,

B
