I don't know, I did it all in order, now I'm just getting a blank screen.

iirc, you also need kernel-headers and maybe one other with a similar name (with my debian based Devuan).

I thought the package build essentials would have dragged it into the install as a dependeant.

With a blank screen and no prompt, I'm not sure what to do.

I would reboot.

Can you boot back into single-user mode, at the grub prompt?

If you can do that, try and reset the xconfig file.

sometimes found /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Code:
X -configure
then copy the new file over the old file and restart the x server (well, reboot to see if the OS gives you a display).

Ok, so my mom's boyfriend gave me an external SSD loaded with Windows 10 and we tried loading it up with the card in and nothing... He narrowed it down to either a problem with the graphics card or my PSU isn't enough power. We're going to get the card checked this week. We can find out if the card is broken or if I need to upgrade my Power Supply. The graphics card is used, btw.

Thanks, everyone for your help, especially Glenn. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks again.

Edit: Also the bios menu is all messed up with the card in. I can't make any edits while the card is in.

But with Windows 10 now, I can at least play my one game, a classic, Bioshock: Infinite (Steam).
