Looks like that's a Dell system, have you tried doing a search for your particular model to see if anyone else has already had this problem? Dell have a bad habit of using slightly nonstandard customisations of some pieces of hardware, which sometimes breaks Linux driver support.

Apart from searching the web for your model number, I can only suggest checking the BIOS to make sure that the onboard sound is enabled there, and seeing if you can get hold of a more recent kernel. A later kernel version may have updated driver support for your audio chipset.

Hi,

My desktop(DELL) is dual bootable. sound works fine in Windows XP. I checked for the sound card properties .. it shows Sigmatel.

I am not finding which RPM I need to install to make sound card detect on Linux. Please help.

What you posted looks a lot like my Dell. I have the sigmatell one as well. Mine works without issue, out of the box in Ubuntu (and many others). Which model Dell do you have? I am at work right no so I cannot check my exact specs right now.
