No picture on my LCD-TV as a monitor

SuSE 9.3

I've got problems using my new LCD-TV as a monitor. It's an LG 26LC55. I get a picture during the early stages of the boot, but after the green screen is shown where you can choose to boot normally or failsafe the screen goes black and the TV says "No signal". This is the case both for VGA and DVI-D to HDMI. I've installed the NVIDIA driver. At least I get an NVIDIA image during boot using my previous monitor an old 21" CRT. In the TV manual they say that you're supposed to set theresolution to 1024x768 and 60 Hz to get the best picture. I did that but there was no 60 Hz so I set it to 58Hz. The last installation I did was in January of 2006 so they're kind of old. The graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500.

How do I get a picture on my LCD-TV as a monitor either via VGA or DVI-D to HDMI?

Since you get a picture early in the boot process, you know it should work. Try booting to runlevel 3 (give 'init 3' at the boot prompt in grub). Log in as user, then su to root and run sax2 to configure the graphics card.

If that fails, try this:
1) boot to runlevel 3.
2) run lsmod to see if the nvidia module is loaded.
3) run rmmod nvidia to unload that module.
4) run modprobe nv to load the kernel nv module, which should give you 2d graphics and probe the nvidia card.
5) then run sax2 to configure the graphics card.
6) modprobe nvidia to get 3d graphics.
