No events are occurring in the udevadm monitor

I have a system on which USB devices are not detected. I'm trying to figure out where the issue is, and I need some help debugging.

I configured the kernel as shown here, and I can confirm that udevd is running (it identifies itself as eudev 3.2.2). There is one device listed in lsusb, the root hub.

However, when a USB device is plugged in, nothing happens. I would expect that I would see something in udevadm monitor, but there's nothing. No messages in dmesg either. In this case, it's just a USB mass storage device, and the driver is compiled into the kernel (i.e., not a module).

At what level should I investigate this issue? Is it possible that The udev configuration is wrong somehow? If not, does this indicate that something is missing from the kernel configuration? Is there anything between the kernel and udev that I'm missing?

Thanks

In the Gentoo article link you provided, under "Troubleshooting" it shows how to log monitor results and enable debugging. I assume you did this? If nothing shows up in the logs pretty much means you need to start over.

Yeah. It doesn't create a log file, and still nothing reported by udevadm monitor. Is it possible that there's another driver that needs to be installed? If the root hub shows up in lsusb, I assumed everything was all set, but I guess that's not the case.

If anyone has any more insight, please let me know. Thanks!
