Here is the more detailed report on my no valid drive problem
I have a HP Proliant ML 310 G4, with a SAS 72GB 15K drives (DF072A8B56) with Red hat enterprise Linux 4
The machine has no internal floppy drive, but I purchased a USB floppy drive after calling HP support as their instructions require use of DD.
I have made a driver disk as per
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/fi...oad/25946.html
Never used rawrite, rawritewin or dd before and had my doubts as with I was using it properly. Confirmed that DD and rawrite is doing something
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=524377
So here are my steps when trying to use the driver diskette on my Proliant
The instructions from HP state
"\tab # linux updates dd"
I overlooked \Tab the first dozen times I tried. So I type
\tab # linux updates dd
and get
Could not find kernel image: \tab
So I type
# linux updates dd
I am asked
--Driver disk--
Do you have a driver disk
I answer yes
I am asked
--Driver disk source --
You have multiple devices which could server as sources for a driver disk
I select sda
Sounds like its reading floppy drive
I am asked
--Update Disk source--
You have multiple devices which could server as sources for an update disk
I select sda
I get to the point of selecting partitioning method, either with automatic partion or manually with disk druid
and get the error
"No drives found
an error has occurred - no valid devices were found on which to create new file systems. Please check your hardware for the cause of this problem.
There is a hard drive on the system, because when booting - I get
slot __ id __ lun __ vendor __ product ______ revision __ capacity
2 ___ 1 ___ o ____ hp ____ df072a8b56 __ hdp7 _____ 70007 mb __ <f9 = setup>
In other words, it sees my HP df072a8b56 in slot 2
