Unhappy nforce hda sound (sound_hda_intel) working but oss emulation does not work

I have a weired problem here...

I am using an NForce 410 board with mcp51 hda audio controller from Nvidia (using module sound_intel_hda).
using the newest ALSA drivers coming with kernel 2.6.17.13, the soundcard and mixer is working without problems using ALSA applications.
aplay, ogg123 etc. do work without problems, but any OSS applications, even "play" do not. They can only play 48000 Hz signed stereo wave files, but no other wave files (e.g. mono 8KHz)

(of course, mixer is unmuted and loud enough, speakers are working, i can here aplay output as I said.)

I can't simply use only ALSA apps, as those systems are for third persons that need special apps like gcompris and so on.

any hints?

I have a similar problem.

ALSA drivers with kernel 2.6.17
NForce Audio Card.

ALSA do work but not at full length, mplayer
produces tak-tak-tak sound after playing for a while.

In gentoo I was unable to
emerge nforce-audio

Every site seemed to have removed nforce-audio files.

just an idea: is it possible to use .asoundrc (or whatever) to convert any innput on the fly to 48KHz _for oss apps_?

still didn't found a solution...
