New system - DLT tape not being seen

Hey, I just built a new system that we are going to be using as a network backup server. It has 4 250gb Seagate drives connected to the motherboard, 512mb memory, Athlon 3200+ processor. It also has a Quantum DLT-V4 SATA tape drive that is connected to a Promise SATAII150 TX4 controller.
The system sees the disk drives without a problem, but I have yet to be able to see the Tape drive. I have Fedora Core 5 installed with the scsi modules built into the kernel. I installed the mt rpm but when I use the mt command it gives me an error of:

st0: No such file or directory

I have setup stinit.def file for the tape drive using the following parameters:

Code:
# Quantum DLT-V4 SATA tape drive
manufacturer=Quantum Inc model = "DLT-V4" {
scsi2logical=1 # common definitions for all modes
# definition of modes
mode1 blocksize=0 compression=1
mode2 blocksize=1024 compression=1
mode3 blocksize=512 compression=0
mode4 glocksize=512 compression=1 }
Not sure if these are correct. when I run stinit it returns a message saying it found 0 devices. So I assume that they are not correct.

Promise Technology has tested this tape drive on this controller card and has reported that it works.

thanks for any help or ideas to look at.

jerry

here are the dmesg and the /proc/scsi/scsi output:

michaelk, thanks for replying. No, the st module was not loaded. The system did not even recognize the DLT.

What has happened since then
------------

Well I installed a promise SATAII Tk150 controller card. After trying numerous versions of Linux, I finally have gone back to Fedora Core 5. I plugged the four SATA drives into the promise controller and the DLT into the motherboard SATA connector. I am not seeing all of the drives and the DLT. The problem is now I want to setup RAID 0 on the 4 drives. I have created the partitions but when I try to create the filesystem (mkfs) or using the LVM tool, I get errors saying that the disk resources are in use and it can't create the file system.

Does the Promise controller see the drives as raid and grab them somehow or can anyone tell me what I'm missing? I have been looking for something on google for the last day and have not seen anything related.

Also does anyone know what key sequence to get into the Promise raid setup. It is not in the manual....actually the manual does not even mention how to setup the raid.

thanks,

jerry
