New motherboard won`t boot HD.

The old MB was a ECS k7s5a. The new one is a ECS 761GX-M754.
The HD is a Seagate 160G ata100. The HD boots OK on the old
MB but not the new one. Lilo=L 01 01 01. Grub=stage 2 read
error. W98= missing file. Plugged another HD in and installed
W98 and it boots OK. Plugged in a HD with grub and it booted.
What`s going on here?

This is a tough one, but it definitely sounds like a hardware problem. One thing that's not clear: the good hard drives boot ok on the new and old boards alike while the old one only boots on the old board or does it not boot on either board anymore?

If the drive in question no longer boots on either board, it could be the cable when you moved it. Also verify the jumpers are set correctly (if PATA).

Agreed, wrong jumper settings could definitely be the cause

It was the HD cable!!! I didn`t think it would be because I had
other HD`s working on it. Thanks for the help.
