Need help with a new build, with better linux support..
Hello. Here's the situation: I bought a "gaming rig" a good couple of months ago. When I used windows it was awesome, but now, that i'm on linux there's alot of problems.
My graphics card always crashes under nouveau, whenever I try to launch a web browser in archlinux, it crashes(I think it is because of the nouveau drivers and my card.), when arch checks my hardware, it says that my chipset is not supported.
^ is some of the problems i've stumbled upon.
So now I want to build a new rig/change some of the parts.
What I want in the new/change up rig is; good support for arch linux, debian, gentoo and slackware(as thoose are the distros I would like to test, arch is my main one). I'm not much of a gamer, I occasionally play some quake live etc, but I'd like the gfx card to support 3 monitors(if possible, it's no biggie.)
Summary: I need good support for the distro's I use.
I don't need good gaming graphics, but I would like my card to support 3 monitors, and be able to play quake live(and maybe diablo 3 at low.)
Now that i've wasted alot of space on pointless things, let's get started on the gear I have.
Rig:
ASUS GeForce GTX 580 1536MB PhysX CUDA (This one causes problems, and I don't use all of it's power anyways.)
ASUS P8Z68-V PRO, Socket-1155 ((I don't know if this one causes the chipset problems, but I think so.)
Corsair AX 850W PSU (PSU is PSU, isn't it?)
Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 8GB CL8 (I don't know if this one can cause problems or not.)
Intel® Core? i7-2600 Processor (I don't know if this one can cause problems or not.)
Sony Optiarc DVD±RW Writer, AD-7283S (No problems with this one.)
Xigmatek Elysium Big Tower Sort (Kinda irrelevant, since it won't make my linux support better, but I'm upgrading to a fractal design R4)
The rest is up to the hardware gods!
Thanks in advance.
Anything on your rig is OK, all parts should run fine under Linux. If you have problems with the nouveau driver just use the proprietary drivers.
But anyways, if you want to change the video card I would recommend to go for an AMD card with Eyefinity option, those support your monitor configuration.

Hmm, then, why does arch print out "chipset not supported" ?
Where and when does it print that out? Is your Arch system updated to the current state?
Please post the exact message you get.
I'm not using arch now, because of that. But I remember when I read up the whole issue, and asked why it happened, they replied "Because you bought hardware with shitty linux support."

I do not know what part the chipset is, btw.
I'm testing with the new installation now, hold on a second!
EDIT: Results! The problems seems to have been fixed with the new version of archlinux.
If you want 3 monitors, your only choices are a nVidia 6XX card (be careful, some of the lower end GT cards dont support more than 2 monitors) or an AMD card with eyefinity.
