Mouse and keyboard laggy

I've just installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64bi on my i5-2400 system, and I'm experiencing very laggy keyboard and mouse input.

I have to type really slowly or I some keys will not get registered. Also, the mouse cursor moves around very slowly at a very low frame rate.

I've checked my keyboard and mouse settings and they seem to be fine. System monitor doesn't show any processes taking up significant CPU utilization. What else could be wrong?

Video driver may be the problem. Google your gear to see what video driver is best in Ubuntu 12.04. It is hard to answer your question with just

without knowing your video chip number and computer specs. Just too little info.

I've updated the video driver to the glasen one as per instructions here and it worked. Previously it did not detect my multi-monitor setup nor the native resolution.

I suspect it's a USB driver problem since my chipset is rather new. The system is an intel Q65 Express chipset with integrated intel 3000 graphics, 2x8GB 1600MHz DDR3 memory and a 256GB SATA SSD. What else do you need to know?

Tried a ps2 keyboard and the problem isn't there so I'm pretty sure it's a USB driver issue.
