Slackware is not a redhat package management distribution. You install files from source tar.gz or the like. I suppose if you are going to learn about linux, slackware will certainly teach you. But if you want it to work without knowing anything, there are better distributions to use. Not my business though, the choice is yours.

Hi, im having the same problem as the guys on the forums stating that they cannot get there sm56k modem to work.

I have a clevo/ kapok (shit brand) notebook. I have 4 OS on there and want to learn Linux. I need to get the modem and sound card to work. would like my video card to work as well through VM ware but thats another story.

I do not know how to compile my kernel as i have read the readme when downloading the drivers.

In the make file i have to specify some directories ? can you please help ?

much appreciated.
